Obverse: Portrait of Carl Friedrich Gauss; Graph (Gauß'sche Normaverteilung - Gauss' normal distribution); historical buildings of Göttingen.
Reverse: Sextant; Surveying of the coast along the German Bight and Northwestern Germany.
Issued by the Deutsche Bundesbank as part of a new series of Deutsche Mark banknotes designed and issued before and after the reunification of Germany. This denomination was issued into circulation on April 16, 1991. Withdrawn from general circulation on December 31, 2001, one day before the full introduction of the Euro issued by the European Central Bank on January 1, 2002.
